FILE’s founder and the world’s third-wealthiest individual, Jeff Bezos, has ventured further into the realm of real estate, acquiring a lavish $68 million USD estate on Indian Creek, an artificial barrier island nestled within the greater Miami vicinity. The 2.8-acre (1.1 hectare) property, featuring three bedrooms and constructed in 1965, was procured from MTM Star International, a company linked to Panama, as revealed by an informed source. Although the sale occurred in June, public records shielded the identity of the buyer, and the most recent documented transaction before this was in 1982, amounting to $1.4 million.

No response has been received from Bezos’ representative in relation to requests for commentary.

Additionally, Bezos, aged 59, is reportedly exploring other real estate prospects in the same area, as shared by the aforementioned source, who preferred anonymity. The exclusive Indian Creek, often dubbed the “Billionaire Bunker,” has housed prominent figures such as Carl Icahn, Tom Brady, Jared Kushner, and Ivanka Trump.

In recent times, Bezos has amassed a collection of residences, including properties in Washington, D.C., a sprawling nine-acre Beverly Hills mansion procured for $165 million in 2020, and an estate in Maui. He also possesses properties in Manhattan, Seattle, and an extensive 300,000-acre ranch in Texas, housing the launch site for Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket.

Notably, Bezos’ expenditure on extravagances has accelerated following his departure as Amazon’s CEO in 2021 and his separation from MacKenzie Scott. His acquisitions encompass the Koru, one of the world’s most costly superyachts, launched this year with an estimated construction cost of $500 million.

The Indian Creek acquisition encompasses nearly 9,300 square feet (864 square meters), as per property records, and boasts a swimming pool.

With a fortune valued at $163 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Bezos would immediately become the most affluent resident of Indian Creek. The island accommodates approximately 40 residences, a country club, and even maintains its own police department.

In recent years, real estate values have surged within the region, encompassing both Indian Creek and the upscale Miami vicinity, as the area magnetizes some of the world’s wealthiest individuals. Figures such as Ken Griffin, Dan Loeb, and Josh Harris have acquired opulent waterfront mansions in Miami Beach since the onset of the pandemic.

This purchase holds sentimental significance for Bezos, who completed his high school education in Miami due to his stepfather’s employment in Florida. His parents possess properties in Coral Gables and Miami Beach.

Bezos has also dedicated time to the region, attending the Miami Grand Prix event in May and making appearances alongside his now-fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, during that weekend.
